Marina & the Diamonds!

Hey guys!

I've been into Marina & the Diamonds for a while, but her new album, Electra Heart, has just come out today! So i thought i should do a post on her!
I've loved all her songs, my favourite being Hollywood (link below!) But i saw her performance on Graham Norton of Primadonna, and it was just amazing. All her new songs are about stereotypes, or 'the archetypes' as her website is called (linked here, check it out, it's amazing http://electraheart.tumblr.com/) She focuses on 4 archetypes; Su-Barbie-A, Teen Idles, Primadonna and Homewrecker.
She released 4 parts (or songs, but she called them parts) in the build up to the release of Electra Heart; the first was 'fear and loathing', the second was 'radioactive', the third wasn't really a song, more of a message called 'the archetypes'; in it, she lists the stereotypes and the image society creates, but plays with the idea of breaking out of that cycle. The last one was 'primadonna'. Please please please listen to them, she's sending out such a strong message about how we've created these ideals and that's what young girls are aspiring to be; beauty queens and rich girls.
Whatever your take on it, you might not even think she's trying to send a message, just listen to her songs. They're so gripping, this whole idea she's putting forward to society is so interesting and inspirational.
Also, i hate to gush, but i have to for her. She's such an icon, first of all she is so undoubtedly cool. Like, effortlessly cool. Whatever she does, wears, says, she is just so cool and individual. Second, her music is perfect, i could listen to it forever, i just love it. Third, she's so talented and her website that i linked to up there^ isn't like all the artists of today; she consistently (in Hollywood especially) is talking about the 'American Dream' and that it's not all it seems.
You can probably tell that i could go on forever about how i love her and her music and everything.
so i'm gonna go now, and leave you with a picture, because pictures are cool.

love,

Lily x
ps: you've probably figured, but if i could be anyone, i'd be her.

KONY 2012

hey everyone!
i'm sure you've all heard about kony 2012, and i'm sure you've all seen the videos (i'll post them down below for anyone who hasn't). I just wanted to make sure that everybody knows what an important campaign this is! There may have been rumors about the campaign about money and blahblahblah, but seriously, everybody should support the cause and raise awareness!
Joseph Kony is the head of the LRA (the Lord's Resistance Army) and he abducts children and makes them fight for him. Some have had to kill their parents, mutilate other peoples faces, and they have awful lives. Kony is doing this for no reason than to have power.
That is a VERY simple and VERY brief introduction to what is actually going on. But i'm sure that from that you can tell how horrible this is, and how we need to stop him and return the children to their parents.
On April 20th there is going to be something called 'cover the night'. Throughout the night, people are going to be putting Kony posters up, stickers, anything to raise awareness to Kony because still, a huge amount of people don't know who he is. If you do this, please watch the videos! It gives much more information and yeah, so if you do it be responsible!
So the videos are down there, pleasepleaseplease watch them, you might not have seen the second one so watch it!

loves,

Lily x

typical weather.

i'm not sure what it is with England and the weather.
right now, i'm on easter break (2 weeks off!) and the weather has been so strange the last couple of days.
at the beginning of the holiday it was hothothot, sunny, warm and amazing weather! but now, towards the end, there have been huge hailstorms, huge amounts of rain in short amounts of time, today there was a thunderstorm and lightening! it's been windy, wet and horrible recently.
i LOVE hot weather! snow is fun but i would rather spend a week at a beach than in greenland, or somewhere cold like there.
there's a stereotype about english weather, that it's cold and wet and miserable most of the time, but also, from around october-february it is so GREY. the sky is grey, the clouds are grey, everything's grey! they're the bad months of the year weatherwise. not that april is so great, it's fully living up to the 'april showers' expectation.
it's been on my mind a lot and i wanted to get it out!

pins and needles

okay, i have to tell you guys something-this blog isn't going to be all about books and movie reviews any more. before it was called 'the life of a bookworm', but now i've changed it to 'lily's lifebook'. i'm sorry for all of you who preferred it about books but i'm more interested in posting about anything that i think about really!
which is why i've called this post 'pins and needles'
i have pins and needles in my feet right now. and it's so annoying. for any of you who have never had pins and needles, it makes your feet feel fuzzy and ticklish and a bit numb, and sometimes even cold for me, and its just a really annoying sensation. i've never found out what actually causes it though, so here's what i found on google:

Pins and needles' (paraesthesia) is a sensation of uncomfortable tingling or prickling, usually felt in the hands or feet. The affected area is sometimes said to have 'fallen asleep'. A common cause is leaning or lying awkwardly on a limb, which either presses against the nerves or reduces the blood supply to the local area. Changing position quickly restores normal feeling. Any numbness is soon replaced by the tingling and prickling sensation, as the nerves start sending messages again to the brain and spinal cord. In some cases, pins and needles are caused by nerve damage or certain disorders of the central nervous system. Always see your doctor if you experience frequent or persistent bouts of pins and needles.

okay, that explains it..sort of. but hey, they're gone now! that's good.
but i just really had to tell somebody about how annoying pins and needles are (they're even worse in your hands than your feet because if you're typing with pins and needles it feels awful).

indie is so mainstream...

ahahaha this is my 3rd post in like 5 minutes i'm just so excited to be back!
everybody in the world with internet can see this, so i'm not sure if its a worldwide thing, but the new big trend for teenage girls in england, where i live, is to be 'indie.'
almost EVERY girl i know is doing this. even me a little bit i hate to admit, but this has always been my kind of style, i've been wearing leather shirts and my brothers old jeans forever. but anyways, there is a whole indie stereotype that's been created. it's girls that have wavy hair, with middle partings, and they listen to indie music while taking artsy photos and posting them on tumblr, and they wear oversized shirts and wool knit patterned jumpers and listen to bands that nobody's heard of.
this annoys me so much-the word 'indie' is short for 'individual'. so many girls are copying this trend, the whole idea of being an individual has changed. it's more indie to be mainstream, if you understand me;)
if somebody was truly 'indie', they wouldn't care what they wore because they were their own person, not caring if it fitted in with the latest trends. 'indie' was originally a style of music, now its a fashion statement.
i just find it so ridiculous that girls try so hard to be this, but the minute wearing hollister hoodies is back to being cool they will sell their polo necks and chunky necklaces for branded tops, and they'll straighten their hair because thats more in fashion than wavy hair. why try so hard to be something else?
being honest, i would much rather be an individual than being indie.

guys i know that was a big rant, sorry! i just had to get it off my chest before exploding;)
i hope you see what i mean? if you're still confused about the concept of 'indie', here is a photo i found of somebody that would be a stereotypical indie girl, and the bottom photo i found on google of 2 people who are the ultimate 'indie' type of people.

i hope you understand what i mean! lots of love,

Lily x
